In my research project I will investigate into how altering elements of an image can affect the feelings that are being portrayed and therefore the feelings the viewer is experiencing.
I am going to investigate into how altering the following elements of an image can effect the feelings that a viewer may feel when looking at the original image and whether this increases or decreases the feelings they are depicting or if it changes them completely.
I will be considering:
- The font used
- The text used
- The colour used
- The style of artwork
- The figure used
- Facial expressions
- The body language
The content I will be considering will be 'Owl Babies' written by Martin Waddell and illustrated by Patrick Benson, a scene from the film 'Titanic', 'The Scream' by Edvard Munch and 'Clams' a cartoon by Berkeley Mews.
I am going to deconstruct and identify the feelings that are being portrayed and alter elements of them to see how it effects the communication of the emotions and the feelings the viewer therefore experiences.
I am going to produce an illustrated image to accompany this quote taken from Dr. Seuss's 'The Cat in the Hat';
"Be who you are and say how you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind."
I will use content that I have found useful through my experimental processes to assist me in creating my final illustration.
I will evaluate all parts of the experimental process in terms of how altering an image can effect the feelings that a viewer is experiencing.
Just from thinking about the quote and without having started any of my experiments, I have come up with an illustration that I feel could accompany the quote.
This rough idea is likely to change throughout my experimental processes. It will be interesting to see how it has changed at the end of my project.
